Balgretto by Mcken Wong
Deep in the woods of the southern world,
Lay a town of idols in gold.
Shimmering amongst the merry making and wine,
It was the town of Balgretto.
Each day when midnight strikes,
Chants and songs echo through the air.
The town of Balgretto prepares itself,
For the sacrifice of blood in the devil’s lair.
Idols of gold lined the altar,
A shiny bowl was placed.
Three men took a step forward,
Each holding a knife reflecting their gaze.
A swift movement followed.
Where blade and skin would meet.
Opening up a wound on the shoulders,
Where the crimson blood would drip.
Into the bowl the blood went,
Swirled together by the priest.
"Let the Master appear." He chanted.
"Let the Master drink from this."
The priest hurried a step back.
And soon a familiar sight emerged.
Smoke was spiraling before the altar,
The devil was soon to converge.
Looking at the people with his fiery eyes,
The devil was a hideous sight.
"I shall drink this blood." He sneered.
"Balgretto will never see light!"
Clasping the bowl with his scaly hands,
The blood slid down his throat.
His face was contorted and burnt,
Seemingly like a demented toad.
As the devil was about to leave,
A blinding light struck him.
He shielded his eyes with his arm,
And instantly knew what was coming.
The villagers were in fear.
Wondering where this light was from.
It had been sixty years,
Since Balgretto had light so piercing and strong.
The devil had already managed to flee.
Disappearing into his evil tunnel of sin.
He was afraid of this light,
A light that could kill him.
The idols of gold were gone.
The altar became rusty and old.
But there were something on the ground,
The bibles they threw years ago!
The town of Balgretto understood.
That they had sinned terribly.
With tears all came to repent,
"We surrender to You Lord, for we are nobody."
The woods in the southern world,
Were no longer dark and cold.
For there had been a revival,
In the town of Balgretto.
